DEF LEPPARD
"The band that refused to quit."
THE STORY
Def Leppard formed in Sheffield, England in 1977, five teenagers who turned a love of hard rock into one of the most successful careers in music history. Their blend of heavy riffs and layered vocal harmonies — sometimes 40 tracks deep — created a signature sound that producer Mutt Lange helped perfect.
Their 1987 album 'Hysteria' is one of the best-selling albums of all time, producing seven singles including 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' and 'Love Bites'. The album took three years to record — partly because drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident in 1984 and had to learn to play with a custom electronic kit.
Allen's return to the stage in 1986 is one of rock's most inspiring stories. The band refused to replace him, and his comeback became a defining moment in their history. Def Leppard has sold over 100 million records and continues to tour to sold-out arenas.
