HEART
"Ann and Nancy Wilson proved women could rock as hard as anyone."
THE STORY
Heart formed in Seattle in the late 1960s, with sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson at the center of a band that blended hard rock power with folk sensitivity. Ann's powerful voice — capable of both delicate balladry and full-throated rock screaming — made her one of the greatest vocalists in rock history.
Their 1970s output — 'Crazy on You', 'Barracuda', 'Magic Man' — established them as one of the premier rock bands of the decade. After a commercial decline in the early 80s, they staged a massive comeback with their 1985 self-titled album, producing 'What About Love', 'Never', and 'These Dreams' — their first #1 hit.
Ann and Nancy Wilson were trailblazers — two women leading a hard rock band at a time when the genre was almost exclusively male. Their 2012 Kennedy Center tribute to Led Zeppelin, performing 'Stairway to Heaven' with an orchestra, moved Robert Plant to tears.
